Spirits of Giving
Northwest Public Broadcasting Presents
Spirits of Giving: A Public Radio Carol
Come along with Ebeneezer Scrooge as he is taken on a journey by the Spirits of Public Radio Past, Present and Years to Come where he learns the true meaning of giving—to his regional public radio service, that is.
Spirits of Giving is written and directed by NWPB’s Mary Ellen Pitney and co-written by NWPB’s Steve Reeder. Performed and produced by the talented members of NWPB’s Programing and Operations team.
Act 1
Meet Ebeneezer Scrooge, a long-time public radio hater. On one fateful evening he receives a very special message that he must stay tuned to.
Act 2
Ebeneezer begins his journey through time. Shepherded to a moment long ago by NPR founding mother, Cokie Roberts, Scrooge is reminded of a feeling almost forgotten.
Act 3
A familiar voice joins Scrooge for a walk through the icy streets of Tacoma where he witnesses first-hand the beauty of the public radio mission and learns about the monumental task of keeping NWPB on air.
Act 4
A vision of the future shows Ebeneezer how bleak the world would be without a public radio service that engages, enlightens, and entertains, and what Scrooge can do to help NWPB keep serving the entire Northwest for years to come.
