The Ancient Ice Age Floods in the Pacific Northwest

Dr. Scott Burns, Professor Emeritus of Geology at Portland State University, is a researcher, teacher, and story-teller of Pacific Northwest Geology. He will discuss “The Ancient Ice Age Floods in the Pacific Northwest.”

We know that Ice Age Floods have inundated the Pacific Northwest over the past 2.8 million years. But we primarily concentrate on the last ones, the Missoula Floods, that occurred between 20,000-15,000 years ago. That’s because the Missoula Floods left the most visible record; they obliterated nearly all the evidence of earlier inundations. Current research, however,  shows an unfolding story of the many torrents that preceded the Missoula Floods. Erica Medley, an MS student of Dr. Burns, discovered many deposits of these rarely discussed ancient floods. Dr. Burns, a most dynamic speaker, is here to talk about those older ones!
