Description: As schools nationwide consider stricter policies on cell phone use in the classroom, educators must navigate the balance between minimizing distractions and fostering media literacy. This presentation explores the recent push to limit cell phone access in schools, the impact of digital consumption on student engagement, and the critical role of media literacy in sustaining a strong democracy.

Bio: Gerald Dalebout is a teacher at Moscow High School. He has taught U.S. Government since 2011 and just recently started an elective called “Media Literacy and Culture.” He was born and raised in Idaho and has lived in Moscow since 2005.
