Carmelita: A Vindication for the Unwritten: Or How to Write Yourself Back Into History

March 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

Meet Carmelita Colón, real-life Walla Walla resident in the gold-rush 1860’s. Born in Mexico, she and her husband Sebastian ran a mule train to the gold mines in Idaho, sold tamales, and ran a Mexican restaurant here in Walla Walla.

Based on extensive research, Ana Maria Campoy has created a vibrant portrait of Carmelita, from her childhood in Mexico to life in California and migration to Washington.

Join us for this must-see tale of gold rushes, wars, outlaws, and tamale recipes, dynamically portrayed by award-winning actress Christa Holbrook.

The program will be followed by an interactive audience Q&A/Discussion.

CARMELITA is supported by a grant from Humanities Washington.
