Black to the Future: Remembering That the Moral Arc of History is On Our Side

Join us on Tuesday, February 11th, for “Black to the Future: Remembering That the Moral Arc of History is On Our Side.” Dr. Sydney Freeman, Jr., will explore the history, current status, and prospective future of Black people in Latah County. He will also share key ways in which everyday citizens can ensure our community continues to attract and retain Black people in the area. The program begins at 6pm via Zoom and will be followed by a moderated discussion with Hayley Noble, Executive Director of the Latah County Historical Society. This event is free and open to all. Dr. Freeman is an international award-winning researcher at the University of Idaho. Under his leadership as the founder and director of the UI’s Black History Research Lab, the lab has received letters of commendation from the US Senate and the Governor of the State of Idaho. Dr. Freeman is a recipient of the 2023 Sheikh Community Unity Award from the City of Moscow, Idaho, and his work on the “The Black Research Initiative for Flourishing and Thriving” project, a collaboration between the Black History Research Lab and the Latah County Historical Society, earned the 2024 Idaho Association of Museums’ Program of Excellence award. In 2024, Dr. Freeman was a United Nations’ Human Rights Fellow and is currently a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (FRHISTS) in the United Kingdom.
