The Nutcracker & The Battle for the Key Brings Holiday Magic to Ellensburg

The shadow of war hangs over the Stahlbaum family as their eldest brother, Alexander, prepares to leave with his battalion. Before his departure, Alexander gifts his sister Clara a precious music box that plays their favorite waltz. Clara places the key to the music box around his neck, with a promise for him to return it to her. As Clara drifts off to sleep, her world transforms into a magical realm where a battle for the key begins, setting the stage for an enchanting adventure.

Holiday magic comes to life during The Nutcracker & The Battle for the Key, presented by Ellensburg Dance Ensemble (EDE) in partnership with Central Washington University (CWU). In this reimagined production, Clara’s journey to recover the stolen key takes her through a world of the Snow Queen’s realm, dancing candies, and a showdown with the enigmatic Sugar Plum Fairy. Danced to Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, this unique version of the beloved ballet captures themes of family, hope, and courage.

A heartwarming story full of wonder and adventure, The Nutcracker & The Battle for the Key is a family-friendly show featuring live orchestration and talented local dancers from ages 8 to adult. This holiday tradition will once again light up the season for Ellensburg audiences, enchanting them with dazzling choreography and timeless storytelling.
