New WSU Football Coach Jake Dickert Takes Over As Head Coach
By Rachel Sun
Washington State University’s new football coach Jake Dickert began his new responsibilities Tuesday as interim head coach. That’s after the school fired Nick Rolovich and four assistants for not complying with the state’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
Dickert has been the program’s defensive coordinator. In a press conference Tuesday he said he expects to announce by the end of the week who will be filling the assistant coach vacancies. “What I guaranteed our players is that they’re not here to replace their coach, you can’t do that, okay, but these men are willing to put players first and are going to come in and help them. And it’s a tough position for anyone to walk into.”
As the team approaches a home game with Brigham Young this Saturday, Dickert says the coaches are planning to keep the same offensive strategy the team is known for.
Rolovich is the first major college coach to lose his job over vaccination status.
