Chasing the Sun in Quarantine
PALM DESERT, CALIF – Stay-at-home orders have been in place for a month now in some places, leaving people stuck at home. For some, they have had the opportunity to travel to somewhere else, leaving home behind.
Despite suggestions against traveling, it is not against the law. Katie Carmody, an elementary school teacher from Issaquah, Washington, was able to travel down to Palm Desert, California, to spend quarantine with her parents.
“I feel like I have more opportunities to go outside, but being here is more, ‘Oh my parents and I could play a game together,’ like I have people I can be around and do different things with,” Carmody said.
Another person who was able to find some sun was Paris Johnson. Johnson is a sophomore at Washington State University and drove to Phoenix, Arizona, with her family to quarantine there at their vacation house.
“I think it’s motivating in different ways. Here I’m a lot more motivated to go outside and walk and run because it’s a lot sunnier,” Johnson said.
Social distancing can be hard for people, but it seems some are managing by chasing the sun.
