Neighborhood comes Together with Teddy Bears

ISSAQUAH, WASH. – Communities around the world are showing support for one another in many different ways during this difficult time. A popular pass time during quarantine: walks around the neighborhood.

A neighborhood in Issaquah, Washington, had the idea via Facebook to put stuffed teddy bears in windows to create a scavenger hunt for those on their walk. The inspiration behind the movement is the popular children’s book, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” written by Michael Rosen.

“This encourages creativity, conversation and connection,” said Eileen Hotchkiss, a resident of the neighborhood.

“During this time, I kind of like knowing that even if it’s a neighbor I don’t know, seeing a teddy bear in the window brings us together as a community,” Leigh Rippel said, another resident of the same neighborhood.

This is not the only example; there have been car parades to celebrate teachers, breaking out into song to celebrate health care workers and lighting candles.
