Remembering David Lang

Pullman- Every once in awhile there are people who impact the lives of everyone they interact with. David Lang was one of those people.

He was the director of strength and conditioning at WSU a position he had held since 2008, though he had been with the university since 1998. Lang had seen 20 years of student-athletes come through WSU and had invested the same amount of energy into every one.

Lang was the head strength coach for women’s basketball and many of the players saw him as more than a coach. “He was a mentor to me and my teammates,” said Maria Kostourkova, former WBB player.

"He was a mentor to me and my teammates"

Lang passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Febuary 24 of 2018. His unexpected passing sent a shock wave through the WSU family, and stunned the people who knew him. The women’s basketball game that was scheduled to be played against Stanford the next day was cancelled to allow players to grieve for their coach.

There are two words that many who knew Lang would say to him now if they could, “Thank you.”

“He kind of shaped the way that I am pursuing my life,” said Jayson Gibb, a graduate assistant strength coach who studied under Lang as an intern.

David Lang will always be remembered for the impact he had on the lives of other people.
